I have been a professional sculptor over 25 years. Then Corona hit and the world shut down. During that time, I saw an ad for a palette knife painting course and joined the group. I have FINALLY, after a lifetime of lessons that didn't "take" for some reason, found a teacher and a painting method that works with my 3D mind!
The painting shown is "The Christmas Pony" and is available as I write this.
I have always loved the work of Van Gogh, especially the ones with tremendous texture. I also love the bright colors he used. This painting teacher, Jennifer Vranes (www.jensart.com) uses bold, beautiful colors and lots of texture. She's also a wonderful, loving, encouraging teacher, and she has created a family feeling with her students. Classes are always fun and critiques are always encouraging, never negative. That's a great atmosphere for artistic growth.
I'm learning this technique while doing landscapes, flowers, windows, etc., but I'm not becoming a landscape artist. I plan to do Impressionistic and/or slightly abstract horse paintings when my skills are developed enough. In the meantime, I'm having a lot of fun and enjoying the lessons and my fellow artists, This is a huge step away from my detailed portraits in bronze, but it's satisfying and fun. I hope you will enjoy my journey with me and will like my paintings enough to start collecting them!
I still have sculptures for sale, and one sculpture ("Focus") is being cast at the foundry as I write this. Please go to www.TheSculptedHorse.com to see my 3-D work and jewelry.
