Some paintings are done in a flash! Those are such fun to do! Then there are those that take literally months to do because of my determination to GET IT *RIGHT*!!! I just posted one of those that took months, "Best Buddies", a portrait of two mustangs that are great friends. You'd think that subject wouldn't be so hard to paint, especially with all my years of sculpting horses that were cast in bronze and portrayed horses accurately enough for them to be recognizable even if I didn't include their markings (blaze, socks, etc.). But painting is a "different animal", especially for me, since I have struggled with 2-D work for most of my life. Doing sculptural reliefs and jewelry really helped me break my 2-D problem, and my painting skills have improved so much that they are now comparable to my sculpture skills - but I'm still not as quick with paint as I was with sculpture. I'll get there! Sometimes I just ITCH to get my hands on that n nostril (for instance) and push it into shape as I would if it were clay, but paint just doesn't work that way! Each painting is a journey in itself, whether it goes quickly or takes a long time. My heart is in each one. I hope that shows to those who see my work!
